Auditions
Here's everything you need to know about upcoming auditions at Stage 212!
The Shark is Broken Auditions
AUDITION DATES: July 31st (6:30pm) and August 1st (2:00pm)
CALLBACKS: August 2nd (Scheduled as needed)
Auditions will include monologues from alternate sources and readings from the script (sides provided at link below). In-person auditions are strongly preferred, but if a video
audition is your only option, please send to director Dave Roden at rodendave@hotmail.com by July 31 at 6:30 p.m. with the subject line “Shark is Broken Video Audition.” Questions may also be emailed to the director at the address above. All participants must fill out the registration form at the link below prior to auditioning.
Rehearsals will likely start after Labor Day, 2026 (typically 3 sessions per week, more often closer to opening).
We are not looking for impersonations. We want actors who can capture the essence and "vibe" of these legends and, most importantly, bring the explosive chemistry required to
make this trio work. Director Dave Roden is open to considering all actors. If you can inhabit the spirit of these roles and the chemistry of the group, we want to see you.
Note: This production features strong language and references to alcohol and drug use. All positions are volunteer. Stage 212 encourages artists of all ethnicities and backgrounds to
apply.

Character Breakdown
Robert Shaw - Male, 40s–50s. A towering, battle-tested British stage legend with the voice of thunder and the presence of a man who’s wrestled both Shakespeare and his own demons — and lived to pour another drink about it. Shaw is the intimidating center of the storm: sharp-witted, brutally honest, and utterly unimpressed by nonsense... which is unfortunate, because he’s surrounded by it.
Richard Dreyfuss - Male, 20s–30s. Meet the human embodiment of over-caffeinated ambition. A rising (and loudly self-declared) talent who swings wildly between “I’m the next big thing” and “I’m a complete fraud” — often in the same sentence. He’s neurotic, high-strung, and impossible to ignore, with a frantic energy that fills every room and wears on everyone in it, especially Shaw.
Roy Scheider - Male, 20s–40s. The self-appointed “peacekeeper” of the group — calm, centered, and radiating just enough chill to make everyone else look unhinged. He’s the guy who diffuses arguments with a smile, a shrug, and a perfectly timed “Hey... let’s not do this,” all while casually working on his tan.
