Cunio's solo album, BACK ALLEY SOUL
ABOUT
Described as the “spawn of Freddie Mercury & Janis Joplin,” Cunio has established himself as one of the most sought after entertainers in NYC. Averaging nearly 150 shows a year, he performs regularly with members of The Roots, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Post Modern Jukebox, Harry Connick Jr. & the Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra and has shared the stage with luminaries including Debbie Harry, Adam Lambert, Paloma Faith, Alisan Porter, Serj Tankian and Rock & Roll hall of famer Darlene Love.
In July, Cunio’s solo album Back Alley Soul debuted at #6 on the iTunes R&B/Soul charts. A tribute to the sweet soul music of historic labels like Stax, Decca & Muscle Shoals’ Fame Studios and inspired by the vintage ethos of labels like Daptone Records, Back Alley Soul has been hailed as “gloriously gritty!”
From 2010- 2015 Cunio was the “electrifying wailer” in PBS “sensation” Under The Streetlamp with whom he filmed 2 nationally televised PBS concert specials, recorded 3 albums and toured the world headlining venues including The Greek Theater & Wolf Trap. Prior to Streetlamp, Cunio starred on Broadway in Hairspray (Corny Collins) and in the Chicago production of Jersey Boys (Tommy DeVito) at the Bank of America Theater. He’s Thrilled to be returning to the greater Chicagoland area and is very proud to present this concert to benefit Stage 212.
