Born Yesterday takes place in an upscale Washington, D.C., hotel suite in 1946. Harry Brock is a thuggish, junkyard millionaire from Jersey who comes to the capitol to take care of shifty business with a crooked senator. Harry brings with him his long-time broad, Billie Dawn. Billie is a blond ex-showgirl whom Harry describes as a little on the dumb side. Harry decides that Billie is too dumb to socialize with the elites of Congress, so he hires an idealistic journalist, Paul Verrall, to teach her grammar and literature. But Paul also believes in pure, uncorrupted democracy - and allows Billie to find within herself what is true and right whether Harry likes it or not. |
